Our new Social Service Support Specialist is Mala Lim, but most people and family know her by Poeurn. She immigrated to the US as a refugee from Cambodia, when she was escaping the radical communist movement known as Khmer Rouge in 1979.
Mala is originally from Banteay Meanchey Province, she has some relatives living in the US and others who are still in Cambodia. She is married and has five children and one grandchild.
With a bachelor’s degree in Education, she worked in the Head Start program. Additionally, she has decades of experience working with refugee families in different areas and in mental health. Most of her education and professional experience was obtained in the US.
Mala shares that her strongest interest is to continue working with refugees and seniors, that is the main reason she accepted the position at SPSC. Her passion is to support seniors and their well-being in daily activities and nutrition.
She states with confidence the following: “I know that my personality will enhance their ability and interest to come to participate and hope to change their lifestyle.”
Physical exercise and work are her favorite hobbies.
