Foot care at SPSC

South Park Senior Citizens recognizes the importance of proper foot health for seniors to maintain mobility and independence. For this reason, SPSC now offers services for professional Foot Care to our seniors, ages 55 and older.

Tiber Skywalker, LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse), owner of Dark Side Foot Care, is our amazing provider—he has been a nurse for 11 years and has extensive knowledge and experience working with older adults.

During the foot care sessions, Tiber provides assessment and a medical pedicure which can be used to treat minor toenail and skin conditions. In a regular session, he checks for pre-existing foot and skin abnormalities, cleanses the feet with hypoallergenic products, thoroughly cleanses nail folds, nail plates and cuticles, removes build-up of skin cells, smooths calluses and corns, and moisturizes. The medical pedicure is good for anyone, foot condition or not—it is part of good foot hygiene and has many preventive benefits.

The seniors who receive care are very satisfied with the professional services. They spread the word among participants, relatives, and friends, and the demand continues to increase. SPSC gives preference to seniors who are diagnosed with diabetes because the disease damages the nerves and reduces blood flow to the feet which causes foot problems.

SPSC has been able to double the number of Foot Care offerings each month due to a recent new funding award—these services are now provided, free of charge, 10 times each month.
